I like it because it can be hooked over the edge of the pot. The adjustable red marker makes it easy to see where the temp should be without having to figure out what the temp increments are on the dial. The last time I used it, I accidentally grabbed a bigger pot. He makes homemade peanut brittle during the holidays. His old thermometer gave out on us and this one was as close to the old one I could find. Its very accurate. The clip hold very well. the numbers are very easy to read. I was making fudge, and the recipe stated I needed to stir until it reached a temperature of 234 F. I set the red arrow to about where that temperature was and stuck the probe into the mixture. It did fine until it reached 200, at which point it stopped, stayed at 200 for several minutes, then started to decrease in temperature despite the mixture continuing to boil away. As a result, I was forced to guess - which is what I did not want to do and why I got the thermometer in the first place - and my fudge didn't turn out.Testing it again, just with a boiling tea kettle of water, it should have registered 212, but again stopped at 200 and then crept back down. |
